Weekly Recipe – Peas On Earth Cakes

These cakes are not only good for your puppy, they are also human edible.  If you like peas, kind of like pea cakes, you will like this as well.

1/2 cup cooked brown rice
1/4 cup frozen peas, thawed
1/4 cup rotisserie chicken, skin and bones discarded and meat shredded
1 egg
2 tablespoons plain breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
Salt and pepper (for people portions)

  1. In a medium bowl, stir together the rice, peas, chicken, egg, breadcrumbs and parsley. Form into four 2 1/2-inch patties.
  2. In a medium skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the chicken patties and cook, turning once, until golden-brown, 6 to 7 minutes. Remove from the pan and let cool slightly. Season people portions to taste with salt and pepper.

They are very simple to make and you can play around with the recipe.  Just make sure that you don’t salt and pepper the dog’s portion.

If there is anything you or your dog is allergic to, you can always substitute and if you don’t like chicken, you can use just about any other meat (except for ground meat, it makes the cakes fall apart easily).

I hope these treats are a big hit with your puppy.  Remember to feed in moderation for a healthy, happy dog!
