Your Dog and “Going Green” With Them
We’re all trying to do our part to make the world a cleaner, better place to live. Whether it’s eating organic, recycling, taking our bicycles to work or all three, we can now “go green” with our lovely pooches!
Probably the best way we can start the green movement with our dogs, is to get them spayed or neutered to help cut down on the over-pet population. You are also giving your dog a longer life, helping to curb cancer in your dog and making sure that other dogs in the neighborhood leave your dog alone, thus saving them from potential disease, fleas or heart worm that other dogs may carry.
Another great way to go green is when your are taking your dog for a walk, do some errands while out with them. This cuts down on car emissions and gets you out in the sun, and gets your dog to see new sights and environments, it keeps their mind stimulated.
Choosing more natural ingredient treats and food is important (making your own from my Recipe Friday posts can be even better because you know exactly what is in the treats your dog is eating). Your dog will get healthy and feel better. There will be less waste produced by them and in the long run, it will make you feel better to know that you are taking better care of your dog.
When you take your dog for a walk, using biodegradable bags for your dog’s waste also helps the environment so that the plastic bags we used to use aren’t still around 50 years from now.
Bath time can even be greener; you can use shampoos with organic, all natural ingredients. Your dog’s skin and coat will thank you.
