What Kind Of Dog Is Right For You?
Posted by furbabiesfurever
In keeping with the theme that October is “Adopt a Shelter Dog Month”, let’s take a look at what kind of dog will be the right fit for you and your family.
If you have an outgoing personality and like to interact with people on your walks, a dog that likes people and is well socialized is best. It is hard to tell within a shelter setting if a dog will get along with other people and dogs, but watching how the dog interacts with other dogs and the people around them will give you some idea of how they function. Also, going to dog training classes or learning to socialize on your own, and having play dates with other dogs as much as possible, will help get a dog to enjoy being around others.
On the other hand, if you are not as sociable, a dog that will like and tolerate others, but is more reserved might be your cup of tea.
Think of how much time you can devote to walking/exercising your dog and try to get a dog accordingly. A Border Collie will require lots of exercise and mental stimulation compared to a dog like a Bulldog, who doesn’t require as much exercise.
There are many things to consider when adopting a dog, and we will look at more in the continuing series, tomorrow. In the mean time, if you want more information about what dog is right for you, this article will give you more information.
