Dog Treat Recall – PetSmart Recalls Simply Nourish treats by Loving Pets Corp

Please read the following voluntary recall:

October 7, 2014 — PetSmart has announced that Loving Pets Corp is voluntarily recalling specific lots of Simply Nourish Biscotti with Beef and Sweet Potatoes Dog Treats due to the potential of mold growth.

The affected products have the expiration date of February 2016. No product images were provided.

No other Simply Nourish or Loving Pets treats are affected.

What to Do?

The company recommends that consumers immediately stop using the specified product and return it to any PetSmart store for a full refund.

You are also advised to bring your receipt with you to the store when requesting a refund.

Dog Treat Recall – Kong Aussie Sticks Treats

Please read the following information about the recall of these treats due to mold contamination:

September 25, 2014 – Kong Aussie Sticks dog treats have been quietly recalled by the product manufacturer, JAKKS Pacific of Walnut, California due to possible contamination with mold.

Kong Aussie Sticks Dog TreatsAs of the time of this writing, neither Kong or JAKKS Pacific has posted any public information webpage giving specific details about this event.

The products being recalled have the following item numbers:

  • Item 75559
  • Item 75560

And these “Best Before” dates:

  • 1/30/16
  • 1/31/16

Where Was the Product Sold?

According to a letter obtained from JAKKS Pacific and forwarded by Kong to The Dog Food Advisor, the recalled product was sold only at PetSmart.

No further store location, online sales or other distribution details have been provided by either company.

Silent Recall?

We are troubled by the covert nature and lack of transparency exhibited by both companies associated with this particular event.

Obtaining confirmation and collecting details about this recall were especially challenging. Apparently, the companies only notified PetSmart and relevant distribution centers.1

And evidently they made no effort to post a public notice.

According to a company spokesperson:

The products were not dried properly so a small percentage of finished goods have gone moldy.

Majority of the product is fine, and the mold was caught at our DC, but some product may have made it to PetSmart so we are recalling all the product at PetSmart and destroying all the product we have at our DC.

What to Do?

According to JAKKS Pacific in that same email, the “product can be returned to PetSmart for a full refund.”

Dog Treat Recall – Iams Withdraws Shakeable Brand Dog Treats

Just received news of another recall.  A bulletin on the PetSmart website has said that there is a withdrawal of the Iams Shakeable turkey and lamb dog treats for mold growth.  Here is the information:

March 2013 – According to a news bulletin just discovered by our staff and published by PetSmart on its website some time earlier this month…

“Proctor and Gamble has issued a voluntary market withdrawal of Iams Shakeables Turkey and Lamb Dog Treats with certain ‘Impacted Lot Numbers’ listed below. These treats are being voluntarily withdrawn due to potential for mold growth.”

According to the retailer, no other products are affected. Proctor and Gamble claims it has not received any reports of human or pet illnesses.

The bulletin warns users to stop feeding the affected products and to return any remaining Iams Shakeables Turkey and Lamb Dog Treats affected by the voluntary withdrawal to their closest PetSmart store for a full refund.

Dog Treat Recall – Claudia’s Cuisine Dog Candy Recall

No time for a product review, I am posting the latest dog treat recall.  This is a voluntary recall, due to mold issues:

December 7, 2012 – PetSmart has announced Claudia’s Cuisine has issued a voluntary product withdrawal for its 7.5 oz Dog Candy Fruit Hound Cake and Dog Candy Blueberry Hound Cake.

No other products are affected.

The products are being voluntarily withdrawn due to the potential to contain mold.

Claudia’s Cuisine has not received any reports of illness associated with the affected product.

Important Notice

Claudia’s Cuisine does not maintain a company website. In addition, PetSmart Customer Service cannot confirm the accuracy of its own report.1

For this reason, we are including below a screen capture image of the actual PetSmart Twitter update posted at 12:12 pm ET Friday.

What to Do

If you suspect your Claudia’s Cuisine Dog Candy product may have mold growth, the company suggests consumers bring the item to your closest PetSmart store for a full refund.
