Dog and Cat Food Recall – Iams and Eukanuba
Iams and Eukanuba are voluntarily recalling some of their food, due to salmonella, here is the release:
August 14, 2013 — The Procter and Gamble Company of Cincinnati, Ohio has announced it is voluntarily recalling specific lots of its dry pet foods because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
The lots were distributed in the United States and represent about one-tenth of one percent (0.1%) of annual production.
According to the company, no Salmonella-related illnesses have been reported to date in association with these product lots.
The affected products were made during a 10-day window at a single manufacturing site. P&G’s routine testing determined that some products made during this timeframe have the potential for Salmonella contamination.
As a precautionary measure, P&G is recalling the potentially impacted products made during this timeframe.
No other dry dog food, dry cat food, dog or cat canned wet food, biscuits/treats or supplements are affected by this announcement.

Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.
This issue is limited to the specific dry pet food lot codes listed below. This affects roughly one-tenth of one percent (0.1%) of total annual production.

June 19, 2013 – The Robert Abady Company of Poughkeepsie, New York, has announced it is voluntarily recalling two of their frozen dog food products due to contamination with Salmonella bacteria.

The affected dog foods were distributed in retail stores and kennels in the following states:
- Connecticut
- New York
- New Jersey
- Massachusetts
The company claims there have been no reports of pet or human illness reported to date.

The affected dog foods were packaged in uncoded frozen 3 pound chubs.

April 19, 2013 – Natura Pet Products has announced it is voluntarily expanding its March 29, 2013 recall of dry pet foods because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.
The expanded recall now includes all dry pet food products and treats with expiration dates prior to and including March 24, 2014.
Products affected by the recall include:

- EVO
- California Natural
- HealthWise
- Karma
Only the following treat products are included in this event:
- Innova Cat Treats
- Wild Cravings Turkey & Chicken Formula Cat Treats
- Wild Cravings Herring & Salmon Formula Cat Treats
- Wild Cravings Weight Management Cat Treats
No other Natura Pet canned wet food, biscuits, bars or treats are included.

Dog Food Recall – Bravo! Recalls Three Raw Dog Food Products
Another day, another recall. This is from the Bravo! company. It is a recall due to contamination from salmonella:
April 3, 2013 — Bravo! of Manchester, Connecticut has announced it is voluntarily recalling three of its raw diet frozen foods for dogs and cats because they could potentially be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria.
“…while these products tested negative for pathogens by an independent third party prior to distribution, they were run on the same day or an adjacent day to a product that tested positive for pathogens.
“The product that tested positive has been 100 percent contained and is not subject to this recall.”
What’s Being Recalled?
- Item #21-405 – 5 lb chub (tube) of Bravo! Chicken Balance frozen raw diet with a “best used by” date of 3-6-15 or 3-12-15 printed on the plastic casing of the package
- Item #21-102 – 2 lb. chub (tube) of Bravo! Chicken Blend frozen raw diet with a “best used by” date of 3-21-15 printed on the plastic casing of the package
- Item #51-508 – 5 lb. bag of Bravo! Beef Blend Burgers with a “best used by” date of 3-21-15 or 3-22-15 printed on the back panel of the plastic bag

March 7, 2013 – Diggin’ Your Dog announced today the brand is voluntarily withdrawing one lot of its Strippin’ Chicks Pet Treats produced on August 30, 2012 because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
The product sample was obtained in Colorado and the company has accounted for its distribution.
What’s Being Recalled?
The product being withdrawn is Strippin’ Chicks Pet Treats in the 5 ounce bag. The Lot Code is 250322 and its “Use By” date is February 23, 2014.
No other Diggin’ Your Dog products, lots or production dates are affected.

Dog Food Recall – Hy-Vee
There won’t be a product review this week as there is yet another recall. This recall is due to high levels of aflatoxin in their food. Please read on and pass on this information to all dog parents:
February 22, 2013 – Hy-Vee, Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of certain packages of Hy-Vee dog food due to elevated levels of a toxic compound commonly found in contaminated corn.
Routine random tests conducted by the Iowa Department of Agriculture indicated higher than normal levels of aflatoxin in some samples of Hy-Vee dog food.
The products were manufactured at a plant operated by Pro-Pet, LLC of Kansas City.
Aflatoxin is a naturally occurring by-product from the growth of Aspergillus flavus mold and can be harmful to pets if consumed in significant quantities.
Symptoms of aflatoxin poisoning include sluggishness or lethargy combined with a reluctance to eat, vomiting, yellowish tint to the eyes or gums or diarrhea.

The recalled products carry three different “Best By” dates and were distributed between October 26, 2012 and January 11, 2013 to Hy-Vee stores in the states of…

February 21, 2013 – The Honest Kitchen has today announced it is voluntarily recalling five lots of its Verve, Zeal and Thrive dog foods because they may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria.
The items were produced between August and November 2012 and sold nationwide in the US and Canada via retail stores, mail order and online after August 2012.
No other Honest Kitchen production dates, batches, or products are affected.

About the Recall
The Company is taking this action after learning that one of its raw ingredients suppliers has recalled a batch of human‐grade parsley that may contain Salmonella .
The batch of parsley was shipped to the Company in 2012 and used in the production of five lots of Honest Kitchen products.
The Honest Kitchen claims to regularly test for Salmonella and other pathogens as part of its quality control process — and has not received to date received any reports of illness associated with these product lots.
The Company is proceeding with this action to ensure the safety and quality of its products.

“While our quality control tests did not find evidence of Salmonella in any of our finished products, we are accountable for everything we make, and are taking precautionary action to ensure the safety and integrity of our products.”
