Dog and Cat Food Recall – Iams and Eukanuba

Iams and Eukanuba are voluntarily recalling some of their food, due to salmonella, here is the release:

August 14, 2013 — The Procter and Gamble Company of Cincinnati, Ohio has announced it is voluntarily recalling specific lots of its dry pet foods because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

The lots were distributed in the United States and represent about one-tenth of one percent (0.1%) of annual production.

According to the company, no Salmonella-related illnesses have been reported to date in association with these product lots.

The affected products were made during a 10-day window at a single manufacturing site. P&G’s routine testing determined that some products made during this timeframe have the potential for Salmonella contamination.

As a precautionary measure, P&G is recalling the potentially impacted products made during this timeframe.

No other dry dog food, dry cat food, dog or cat canned wet food, biscuits/treats or supplements are affected by this announcement.

This issue is limited to the specific dry pet food lot codes listed below. This affects roughly one-tenth of one percent (0.1%) of total annual production.

June 19, 2013 – The Robert Abady Company of Poughkeepsie, New York, has announced it is voluntarily recalling two of their frozen dog food products due to contamination with Salmonella bacteria.

The affected dog foods were distributed in retail stores and kennels in the following states:

• Connecticut
• New York
• New Jersey
• Massachusetts

The company claims there have been no reports of pet or human illness reported to date.

• Abady Frozen High Stress/High Performance Dog Food (3 lbs)
• Abady Frozen Growth Formula for Puppies of the Large and Giant Breed (3 1bs)

The affected dog foods were packaged in uncoded frozen 3 pound chubs.

Another day, another recall.  This is from the Bravo! company.  It is a recall due to contamination from salmonella:

April 3, 2013 — Bravo! of Manchester, Connecticut has announced it is voluntarily recalling three of its raw diet frozen foods for dogs and cats because they could potentially be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria.

According to the company…

“…while these products tested negative for pathogens by an independent third party prior to distribution, they were run on the same day or an adjacent day to a product that tested positive for pathogens.

“The product that tested positive has been 100 percent contained and is not subject to this recall.”

What’s Being Recalled?

• Item #21-405 – 5 lb chub (tube) of Bravo! Chicken Balance frozen raw diet with a “best used by” date of 3-6-15 or 3-12-15 printed on the plastic casing of the package
• Item #21-102 – 2 lb. chub (tube) of Bravo! Chicken Blend frozen raw diet with a “best used by” date of 3-21-15 printed on the plastic casing of the package
• Item #51-508 – 5 lb. bag of Bravo! Beef Blend Burgers with a “best used by” date of 3-21-15 or 3-22-15 printed on the back panel of the plastic bag

No other products are affected.

Dog Food Recall – Natura Pet Expands Recall of California Natural, EVO, Innova and more!

Further information on the dog food recall.  Please read to see if your dog food is affected.  It is also recalling a single lot of Cat food treats (Innova):

March 29, 2013 – Natura Pet has today announced it is expanding its recall of specific California Natural, Innova, EVO, Karma and Healthwise formulas as a “precautionary measure” due to potential contamination with Salmonella bacteria.

According to the company, no other P&G Pet Care brands are affected by this recall.

Natura Pet claims it was alerted to a single case of Salmonella in a package of EVO Turkey & Chicken Cat Food on March 15th.

The company then took the “precautionary measure” of recalling all products produced on the same production line within the same time frame.

After further examination, Salmonella was also discovered in other packages of EVO Turkey and Chicken Cat Food and Innova Cat Treats.

What’s Being Recalled?

The company is taking the action of expanding its current recall to include additional Natura Pet products that were produced between December 14, 2012 and March 24, 2013 on the same production line.

Natura Pet is also recalling a single lot of Innova cat treats.

Due to the unusually large number of product codes and lot numbers involved in this recall, we have reproduced the actual letter sent to retailers and distributors on this page.

What to Do?

In its letter to distributors, Natura Pet advised…

“Managers or designee should immediately secure all affected SKUs to an isolated location. Product should be secured (and) segregated from saleable product.

Distributor partners, please notify your retail outlets and ensure they take the appropriate action to remove the impacted products from the shelf.

Your Natura Sales Representative and/or distributor will be in contact with further instructions.”

March 7, 2013 – Diggin’ Your Dog announced today the brand is voluntarily withdrawing one lot of its Strippin’ Chicks Pet Treats produced on August 30, 2012 because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

The product sample was obtained in Colorado and the company has accounted for its distribution.

What’s Being Recalled?

The product being withdrawn is Strippin’ Chicks Pet Treats in the 5 ounce bag. The Lot Code is 250322 and its “Use By” date is February 23, 2014.

No other Diggin’ Your Dog products, lots or production dates are affected.

Dog Food Recall – Hy-Vee

There won’t be a product review this week as there is yet another recall.  This recall is due to high levels of aflatoxin in their food.  Please read on and pass on this information to all dog parents:

February 22, 2013 – Hy-Vee, Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of certain packages of Hy-Vee dog food due to elevated levels of a toxic compound commonly found in contaminated corn.

Routine random tests conducted by the Iowa Department of Agriculture indicated higher than normal levels of aflatoxin in some samples of Hy-Vee dog food.

The products were manufactured at a plant operated by Pro-Pet, LLC of Kansas City.

Aflatoxin is a naturally occurring by-product from the growth of Aspergillus flavus mold and can be harmful to pets if consumed in significant quantities.

Symptoms of aflatoxin poisoning include sluggishness or lethargy combined with a reluctance to eat, vomiting, yellowish tint to the eyes or gums or diarrhea.

The recalled products carry three different “Best By” dates and were distributed between October 26, 2012 and January 11, 2013 to Hy-Vee stores in the states of…

No other Honest Kitchen production dates, batches, or products are affected.

About the Recall

The Company is taking this action after learning that one of its raw ingredients suppliers has recalled a batch of human‐grade parsley that may contain Salmonella .

The batch of parsley was shipped to the Company in 2012 and used in the production of five lots of Honest Kitchen products.

The Honest Kitchen claims to regularly test for Salmonella and other pathogens as part of its quality control process — and has not received to date received any reports of illness associated with these product lots.

Consumers who purchased the above lots of Honest Kitchen Verve, Zeal or Thrive products should stop feeding the products to their pets, remove the UPC (bar code) and lot code from the packaging, and discard the contents in a covered trash receptacle.

Lot codes are located on the top of product boxes either adjacent to or opposite the UPC.
